sacroilitis

Sacroiliitis is inflammation of the joints (joints) of the lower spine and pelvis, on one or both sides. Sacroiliitis can present with pain in the buttocks, hips, or limbs The pain is often worsened by prolonged standing or climbing stairs

Sacroiliitis is difficult to diagnose because it is often mistaken for other causes of low back pain. Sacroiliitis is included in the group of inflammatory arthritis Treatment includes rest, physical therapy, and medication
Many factors cause joint dysfunction, including:

  • traumatic injury Sudden trauma, such as a car accident or a fall, can cause joint damage
  • Arthritis Osteoarthritis can also develop in the pelvic joints, as can ankylosing spondylitis, an inflammatory arthritis that often involves the spine.
  • Pregnancy Pelvic joints loosen and stretch during childbirth The increased load and changed gait during pregnancy puts additional stress on these joints and causes them to wear out.
  • Infection Rarely, joints are damaged due to infection

Pain associated with sacroiliitis is most often felt in the buttocks and hips The pain may spread to the limbs, groin, and feet Sacroiliitis pain is made worse by:

  • Standing for a long time
  • Bearing more weight on one leg than the other
  • Climbing stairs
  • Running
  • Long walks
